USPA NEWS - Hydraulic fracturing is a process used in nine out of ten natural gas wels in the United States, where millions of gallons of water, sand and chemicals are pumped underground to break apart the rock and release the gas. Scientists are worried that the chemicals used may pose a threat.
Environmentalists insist that fracking endangers the environment through leakage and spillage of poisonous liquid materials and fracking fluids to the ground water. Environmental activits assembled on Ocean Beach (SanDiego350), saturday morning to distribute petitions to send to Governor Jerry BROWN in an attempt to lobby for an executive order banning the practice of hydraulic fracturing known as fracking within the State of California.
In July, the California Council on Science and Technology released a study on the environmental effects of hydraulic fracturing within the State. Oil companies seem to be using technic causing less damage in California than in other States, that means we need further studies and strong monitoring standards.

What's wrong with fracking ?
- Water pollution and shortages
- Air pollution
- Earthquakes
- Climate change
- Special permission to pollute

Do Californians support or oppose fracking ?
- A majority of Californians (51 %) oppose increased use of fracking for oil and natural gas extraction while only 35 % support fracking (PPIC - Poll, July 2013)
