Production in construction down by 1.9% in euro area

USPA NEWS - In June 2015 compared with May 2015, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 1.9% in the euro area (EA19) and by 1.1% in the EU28, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
In May 2015 , production in construction grew by 0.2% in the euro area and fell by 0.2% in the EU28. In June 2015 compared with June 2014, production in construction fell by 2.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU28. The decrease of 1.9% in production in construction in the euro area in June 2015, compared with May 2015, is due to civil engineering falling by 2.7% and building construction by 1.6%.
In the EU28, the decrease of 1.1% is due to civil engineering falling by 1.7% and building construction by 0.9%. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest decreases in production in construction were recorded in Germany (-4.5%), Poland (-4.2%), Sweden (-2.7%) and France (-2.5%), and the highest increases in Romania (+3.5%), Bulgaria (+2.6%) and the United Kingdom (+2.5%).
The decrease of 2.3% in production in construction in the euro area in June 2015, compared with June 2014, is due to civil engineering falling by 3.1% and building construction by 2.0%. In the EU28, the decrease of 0.4% is due to building construction falling by 0.6%, while civil engineering rose by 1.0%. Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in production in construction were recorded in Slovenia (-12.2%), France (-6.8%), Poland (-4.7%) and Germany (-3.9%), and the highest increases in Slovakia (+24.1%), the Netherlands (+15.8%), Romania (+13.1%) and Sweden (+10.8%).
