Furthermore, Mezouar said Morocco is committed to continue the momentum of this international conference and carry it even further, expressing the ambition of United to make the COP22, to be held in November 2016 in Marrakech, a milestone in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and consolidating the momentum through the Lima-Paris Agenda climate. In his address at the opening of the session, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stressed the need to conclude an agreement that maintains the rise in global temperature to below degree Celsius, knowing that for many countries, including those located at lower elevations and the least developed countries, even an increase of 1.5 degrees will have serious consequences.

"The current target is the bare minimum we must have the ambition to go beyond," he said, calling for provision in the agreement of five-year cycles, from 2020, for States reviewing their commitments and strengthen the basis of available scientific data.
