USPA NEWS - The previous chairman of the regional Government of Catalonia and president of the nationalist party Democratic Convergence of Catalonia (CDC), Artur Mas, said Sunday that the sovereignism is the only project that exists in Catalonia.
"The sovereigntist project is, at present, the only one with face and eyes in Catalonia", while the rest are scattered, Artur Mas said before the leaders of his party met to approve the agreement 24 hours before the anti-capitalist coalition CUP for the election of Carles Puigdemont as new president of the regional Government of Catalonia. But he was greeted with a standing ovation by the leaders of CDC and was interrupted several times during his speech by applause from his colleagues.
The previous president of the Catalan Government and CDC candidate for re-election in the office said that when he leaves, after the election of Carles Puigdemont, will "calm and grateful." He admitted that he had become an issue for negotiations between Together for the Yes (Nationalist-Republican coalition comprising the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia and the Republican Left of Catalonia) and the CUP, but denied that his insistence on being candidate subtracted supports the independence. "I will never rest," said Artur Mas.
He ended his speech by sending a message to the Government of Spain, to ensure that "have set alarm bells ringing in the State" because the independence process continues. "Those who toasted with champagne because they said that what was happening in Catalonia was cooling the process, have had to keep in the fridge and I hope for a long time," he added, after insisting on not leaving politics but remains and will continue to contribute to the development of Catalan independence project.
