AMMEENAH GURIB FAKIM, PRESIDENT OF MAURITIUS ATTENDED THE WOMENS FORUM IN DEAUVILLE 2015 AND THE NEXT DUBAI WOMENS FORUM-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2014, the Women's Forum for the Economy & Society launched its 11th edition of the Global Meeting in 2015 in a new era bringing together women and men leaders to build the future.---------------------------- Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, new President of the Republic of Mauritius and the first woman to hold this position was honorary invitee at the Women's Forum, among other prestigious guests such as: Anousheh Ansari - the American-Iranian engineer co-founder and President of Prodea System and the first Muslim woman to be in space and Laurence Tubiana special Representative on Climate conference Paris 2015 COP 21- Musimbi Kanyoro, President and General Manager of Global Fund For women - Irina Bokova, Secretary General of the UNESCO. Under the theme "Energizing the World! "The Women's Forum Global Meeting 2015 was held from October 14 to 16, 2015 in Deauville and brings together many talents from all backgrounds and all generations to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow: Providing for our needs vital, create the future with innovations today and give the next generation the key leadership and creativity of tomorrow.The 11th annual Women's Forum Global Meeting was a historical moment, with the representation of 76 countries, 1300 delegates, 280 speakers, 612 organizations, more than 60 partner organizations, 90 sessions, and an unprecedented percentage of men (around 20%)! The 2015 Women´s Forum Global Meeting welcomed honoured guest Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, newly elected president of Mauritius and the first woman to hold that position, and Laurence Tubiana, Special Representative to the French government on the 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP-21), for a discussion during the opening dinner on Wednesday 14th October, inspiring the 1300 Global Meeting participants into finding innovative solutions for the global issues of today.

United States Press Agency´s Rahma Sophia Rachdi sat down with President Ameenah-Gurib-Fakim and had a candid conversation about passion, knowledge and astounding success of her works and activities in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and abroad.  So let´s talk about Environment and sustainable development !----------------------------------------------------------------- QUESTIONS TO PRESIDENT OF MAURITIUS AMEENA AT WOMEN'S FORUM----------------------------------------------- QUESTION: How have found the Women's Forum in Deauville 2015 for your first participation in a large gathering of women from the world, from your status as President?------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANSWER Professor Gurib FAKIM: ANSWER Professor Gurib FAKIM: I came by my participation in the Womens Forum, staffed by its quality and interventions really impressed me. All these women came from the end of the world with such talents and experiences to share. This encourages to be willing to give, exchange and touch entrepreneurs whose ethic was tested and demonstrated in their techniques, for all that will help the environment not only from an energy point of life but also in line with the COP21. The range of sectors are impacted by climate change.---------------------------------------------------- QUESTION: You spoke at a dinner debate with ladies Laurence Tubiana (Special French Ambassador of COP21) and Barbara Lavernos (General Director of Purchasing of L'Oréal Group) -around the COP21 ?, You have been highly acclaimed. How to explain how you address the public as a woman head of state and science ?--------------------------------------------------- ANSWER: When I address a message and being scientific training I still Cartesian, beyond political rhetoric. We must speak the truth and sincerity. The scientist is stronger than the policy to comply. And when you take into account the female element, things work better ".------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- QUESTION: As a woman as head of state, do you think the gender equality is evolving in the right direction at the 21th century?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANSWER: Being a woman and Mauritian is special because since 1976, free education and parents choice have allowed, the time of the emancipation to women through the education of girls. Education is a pillar for the development of girls and we will organise a forum around that topic in 2016 in Mauritius. We were encouraged to participate in the Women's Forum is a great idea because it's a place of fertilisation of ideas brilliant women.

PROFESSOR AMEENAH-GURIB FAKIM RENOWNED BIOLOGIST IS THE FIRST WOMAN TO BE NOMINATED PRESIDENT OF MAURITIUS IN JUNE 2015---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Council of Ministers held a meeting on 1 June 2015, for a special commission to formally nominate Professor Gurib-Fakim as President of the Republic of Mauritius, succeeding Kailash Purryag who had resigned. According to AFP, the Mauritian National Assembly then held another meeting in special session to pass a motion of the Prime Minister Anerood Jugnauth for validating this election. The opposition voted this motion, according to the head of the parliamentary opposition, Paul Berenger.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BRILLIANT SCIENTIFIC CAREER OF AMEENAH-GURIB FAKIM EXPERT IN BIODIVERSITY BEFORE BECOMING PRESIDENT It's not very usual that a scientist renowned biologist, sworn in as President of her country, the Republic of Mauritius. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, both young and pretty, acceded to the supreme post, at age 57, in a major island in the Pacific. herbal medicine specialist, Professor Gurib-Fakim is honorary doctor of the University Paris VI. This is a first time and is repeating history since the independence of Mauritius in 1968. Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim, serves as sixth President of Mauritius since June 2015. As such, she is the Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Republic of Mauritius, and was unanimously approved in a vote in the National Assembly. Ameenah Gurib Fakim President ´s official residence is the State House.

AMEENAH GURIB FAKIM IS A STRONG SCIENTIST WHO PUBLISHED SEVERAL WORKS AND RECEIVED MANY AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In 1988, she married Dr. Anwar Fakim who is a surgeon. She has two children; a son and a daughter. She is currently resident of the town of Quatre-Bornes, Mauritius. She lives with her husband, children and her elderly parents. Doctor Ameenah Fakim Gurib has received several awards and honours such as the “L´Oréal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science“ for Africa and Award for “National Economic and Social Council ““ Gov. of Mauritius“ in 2007.---------------------------------------- In 2008, she was elevated to the “Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean“ by the Government of Mauritius and awarded the “˜Emma Award´ by Bank One Ltd. “For Outstanding achievement and accomplishment“. In 2009, Ameenah Gurib-FAkim studied as fellow of the “Islamic Academy of Science“ in Jordan, won the CTA/NEPAD/AGRA/RUFORUM for “African Women in Science“. At the same year she was again elevated to the Order of the “Chevalier de l´Ordre des Palmes Academiques“ by the French Government and won another award for “Women in Science“ for the Eastern African Region“ by the African Union. The arrival of Ameenah Gurib-Fakim arrives at the right time at the head of her country, in a current context turned to ecological solutions to both preserve biodiversity (of which she is a specialist) and implement the recommendations of the issues of historic agreement of COP21 in a local and global scale.
